On Monday 21st September, a small group of the Friends’ trustees were given a tour of the new Urgent Treatment Centre by the Department Manager Karen Hawes. The bright and spacious department is kitted out with state-of-the-art equipment and it was fantastic to see this in use and to hear how well the new arrangement is working for patients and staff alike. A varied team of healthcare professionals including GPs, advanced clinical practitioners and nurses supported by non-clinical staff including managers and receptionists, work together to provide treatment for minor injuries and acute illnesses that are not life threatening. The unit is open between 8am and 8pm every day.
Unfortunately, current restrictions imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic mean that a formal opening is not possible, but the Friends intend to put up a plaque in recognition of the generous donations of the local community without which the development would not have been possible.
